Warning! HTML Spam is on the Move

by Aisha Mazhar on September 25, 2010

Spam emails are always a part of our inbox, isn’t it? Yes indeed it is. What is the solution? One solution is to filter your emails, but what about the new spammers? I personally think that there is no persistent solution to the spam problem. Today I will introduce another spam attack.

This time hackers and spammers are allowing users to click on “harmless” email attachments. This term “harmless” is search engine optimized, hackers are trying to get hold of this subject line and trick the users to have success in their latest hacking campaign. People like me will definitely click on the attached file. If one clicked of the attachment, there launches a Javascript attack that can send you to a rouge pharmacy website.

On that webpage there is an advertisement of fake antivirus, moreover if user installed that antivirus he is finished. It opens a back door to harm your machine. There are many solutions to this particular spam, one of them don’t open the attachments, if opened disable Javascript in your browser, finally scan your machine with the help of good antivirus software.

To avoid such emails, I mean spam emails, you need to enable spam filter for your email. Another common type of spam email is the tricky ‘Delivery Status Notification Failure’ spam email. This email forces users to open it even if the user is tech savvy.

Beware of the hacker attacks, malware attacks, scams, spam emails and moreover unknown links and unknown websites. Most of the unknown links contains Javascript, which in turn can take your machine off.
