Today I will tell you how Zeus botnet spreads and what it uses to spread along the machines of the world. Trend Micro; a security firm, found that Zeus use digital certificate of a security company so that it should look legal. Let me have a recap of Zeus botnet, it is a malware (or a botnet I must say) which can grab any data from your machine, it becomes difficult for the antivirus programs to detect it.
There are quite a few versions of Zeus! Latest of all is Zeus 2.0, it uses a digital which belongs to Kaspersky’s Zbot. Wow! Like hackers are just unpredictable, they can anything anytime. Let me tell you another strange thing that Zeus 2.0 uses digital certificate of this product which is designed to remove the botnet.
You all a familiar with the term hash value? In case if you are not then here is the definition of hash value, hash value is a value which is used in cryptology. It is a unique number which is used to derive any program, in this Kaspersky is the program. Zeus uses Kaspersky’s hash value. Technique of stealing digital certificate is common, hackers and malware developers use this technique.
If hackers and malware developers continues their attacks this way then I doubt that malware will spread exponentially in coming future. Antivirus firms and security firms must take positive measures to protect users against these hacker attacks.
