Just today I got a news that the Greenpois0n RC5 will support all iOS devices. This was announced by an active member of Chronic Dev Team. Pod2g said on Twitter that the next version of Greenpois0n will support all devices running iOS 4.2.1. Here is a screenshot of the tweet he posted on Twitter.
What does this mean? This means that the jailbreak tool from the Chronic Dev Team will untether all the iOS devices. Now here is the list of the devices which Greenpois0n will support.

For your iPhone 3G you can use Redsn0w 0.9.7 to jailbreak it for life of course with all firmware. I am saying that because iPhone 3G will not support next version of iOS. Now the iPhone 3G owners can have a relief. Anyways, release date of Greenpois0n is still not known. But the symptoms are obvious that the jailbreak tool will be out soon.
