What is Jailbreaking? As cellphone jailbreaks are gaining popularity these days we see many of our fellows asking these types of questions that what exactly is a jailbreak? what is jailbroken iphone? or what is jailbreak iphone mean? In this article, i will tell you everything you should know about jailbreak and the term jailbreaking!

jailbreaking

The term “Jailbreak” or “Jailbreaking” is a procedure involves allowing an iPhone or iPod (or even other cellphones like of Google or Motorola etc) users to bypass all restrictions and download those applications which are officially restricted or banned by AT&T and Apple (or other manufacturer depending on the cellphone, here I am taking “Apple” as an example). Such applications are not available at Apple App Store but users want to download them just to enjoy the increased functionality of their iPhones. Once an iPhone is jailbroken it can run all sort of unauthorized Apps restricted by AT&T and Apple.

Some people get confused in between Jailbreaking and SIM Unlocking. Actually both are two different things! Jailbreaking is different from SIM unlocking in a way that SIM Unlocking just allows you to use any SIM after unlocking your iPhone or any other cellphone. But in Jailbreaking, An iPhone becomes free from all limitations and restriction imposed by Apple and AT & T and can run the unauthorized code to download banned applications. Such unauthorized applications which are not available at Apple Apps Store can be downloaded from unofficial installers like Cyndia which allows bypassing Apple’s official limitations for its iPhone users. According to an estimation come forward by Cyndia, about 9% iPhone and iPods have been jailbroken to allow unauthorized access to banned applications.

Now a question arises that how does jailbreaking works? and how to jailbreak  an iPhone, iPad or iPod? Well the answer to it is quite simple. In order to jailbreak an iPhone, the user just installs a jailbreaking software to its computer and then transfers this software application to its iPhone, iPad or iPod. After transferring this software which on transferring breaks the file system of cellphone and allow downloading your desired Apps through unofficial resources.

After reading till here you now have some idea What a Jailbreak is all about and why many people are looking for the different ways to jailbreak cellphone and you also know how an cellphone is jailbroken.. Now I will  talk about the Legality of Jailbreaking!

The Legality of jailbreaking is a topic of discussion since the first jailbreak was introduced! Apple has kept announcing that jailbreaking is totally illegal and unethical activity which violates its code copyrights by modifying it in user desired way. But this complaint is almost rejected by the unofficial application coders/makers saying that the unofficial apps providers are only using Apply code to modify the iPhone settings and they are doing so just to allow users to enjoy some useful and cool apps  which are restricted and/or not available at Apple’s Apps Store which means that nothing illegal is being done since the coders are only using the apply codes and if it leads to exploits or jailbreaks then Jailbreaks are Apple’s own fault. ;)

Now I will discuss few things to know before jailbreaking iphone,  The most important thing to be Conscious, because Jailbreaking can be Risky to your iPhone’s Life!

Although, It’s definitely true that jailbroken iPhones could bring a funny or enjoyable experience for iPhone users but it could also be risky as well due to some reasons. Firstly jailbreaking is considered an illegal activity by Apple  itself and also by AT&T; therefore in case of any technical problem caused as result of Jailbreak then they will not provide any support whatsoever to resolve the issue. Secondly, unauthorized apps could also damage or even disable the iPhone completely or cause malfunction of any type and user will find no technical support to get it back to normal functioning. Though there are some iPhone users who succeeded to recover original settings by connecting their iPhones with iTunes but still there are a lot of cases where users have disabled their smartphone after downloading unauthorized apps through unofficial online resources.

So, if you ever decide to jailbreak your iPhone to take benefits of some useful or cool applications that are restricted by Apple and AT & T then think over it once more because after you unlock/jailbreak your iPhone you will not be able to restore original functionality added by Apple and AT & T and will also lose the guarantee for technical support provided by these cellphone  companies.
