in Bug Reports, News and Rumors

Microsoft Windows is an operating system full of bugs, and yes it is very well known of it’s bugs and issues, raised every second day. Folks used to say that Windows has always been criticized for the numerous bugs and much of the compatibility issues. Many of us face many issues regarding Windows operating system, I faced two more of them.

bugs in windows xp

Today I am going to present those two non-critical but weird bugs that exists in Windows XP.

1. Unable to rename a folder (Weird!)

First of them is: Windows does not allows you to create folders with following names:

CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.

You can easily test it, all you have to do is, just create a New Folder on your computer anywhere you like. Now rename your created folder and enter any of the above given names. Now hit Enter, and notice that the folder name changes back to “New Folder”. This maybe because all above names are for some other use of operating system, or have some hidden meanings.

2. The Microsoft Word bug

Definitely you use MS Word for your documents, now try this

  • open MS Word
  • type “ =rand(200,99)” (without the quotes).
  • hit Enter.

You will notice a massive text with 470 pages and 407,000 words. How come? It maybe because you typed “rand”, MS Word had generated random text for you. This bug is not yet fixed even in Microsoft Word 2007 :D .
